<strong>General</strong> <strong>Orders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Turks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Caicos</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> - 1998 Edition7.10.3 An Officer who is entitled to a housing allowance may be required to live in a Governmentquarter at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary.7.10.4 The following Officers may be paid a housing allowance at <strong>the</strong> rates set out in Appendix D:Overseas Officers recruited on Contract terms;locally appointed Officers posted to a different isl<strong>and</strong> from <strong>the</strong> isl<strong>and</strong> upon which <strong>the</strong>y werefirst appointed to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>and</strong> who have not been living on that different isl<strong>and</strong>for a period <strong>of</strong> more than three years; <strong>and</strong>Police Officers covered by <strong>the</strong>se <strong>Orders</strong> who are married or who o<strong>the</strong>rwise could notconveniently live in police barracks, which are an entitlement <strong>of</strong> Police Officers, at <strong>the</strong>discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Commissioner <strong>of</strong> Police.7.10.5 Where more than one Officer who would normally be granted such an allowance lives at oneaddress <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> allowance cannot be granted to more than one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Officers.Order 7.1.1Telephone allowance7.11.1 An Officer who has a telephone in his or her residence <strong>and</strong> who as part <strong>of</strong> his or her day to dayduties may be expected to have to make or receive <strong>of</strong>ficial calls outside <strong>of</strong> Normal Working Hoursmay at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary be granted a telephone allowance.7.11.2 Where more than one Officer who would normally be granted such an allowance lives at oneaddress <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> allowance cannot be granted to more than one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Officers.7.11.3 The rates <strong>of</strong> telephone allowance are set out in Appendix D.Order 7.12Transfer <strong>and</strong> posting allowance7.12.1 When an Officer is transferred from one station to ano<strong>the</strong>r within <strong>the</strong> W<strong>and</strong>s <strong>the</strong> followingexpenditure in connection with his or her transfer will be met from public funds:reasonable travelling expenses, at <strong>the</strong> rates decided by <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary from time totime, as if <strong>the</strong> Officer were travelling on duty himself or herself, his or her spouse <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>irChildren;free transport for his or her vehicle if it is deemed by <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary necessary for <strong>the</strong>performance <strong>of</strong> his or her duties; <strong>and</strong><strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> transporting his or her baggage by sea including furniture <strong>and</strong> household effectsnot exceeding seven cubic metres.7.12.2 Whenever a transfer involves <strong>the</strong> transporting <strong>of</strong> an Officer's baggage <strong>the</strong> Responsible Officershould arrange this through <strong>the</strong> Chief Engineer, <strong>Public</strong> Works Department.Order 7.13Passages7.13.1 Nothing in this Order shall give any Officer a right to any passage or related privilege.Whenever an Officer is granted a passage at public expense it is for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> carrying out a dulyauthorised journey <strong>and</strong> does not convey any entitlement to a sum <strong>of</strong> money.7.13.2 An Overseas Officer is eligible for passages at Government expense on <strong>the</strong> followingoccasions:29
