<strong>General</strong> <strong>Orders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Turks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Caicos</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> - 1998 Edition8.119 The Chief Secretary must be notified <strong>of</strong> responsible Officers who intend to spend <strong>the</strong>ir leave orpart <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir leave overseas on <strong>the</strong> form given at Appendix E. Such notification should be made well inadvance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> date on which <strong>the</strong> leave would commence.8.1.20 Officers proceeding on leave away from <strong>the</strong>ir home address notified to <strong>and</strong> kept at <strong>the</strong> ChiefSecretary's Office shall notify <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir address whilst on leave on <strong>the</strong> form given atAppendix E.8.1.21 An Officer applying for leave with <strong>the</strong> intention <strong>of</strong> retiring may be granted, immediately priorto <strong>the</strong> effective date <strong>of</strong> his or her retirement on pension, <strong>the</strong> accumulated leave for which he or she maybe eligible toge<strong>the</strong>r with any additional full pay leave accumulated in accordance with Order 8.1.18,provided that without <strong>the</strong> authority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary no Officer shall be granted a total period <strong>of</strong>more than twelve months leave prior to his or her retirement.8.1.22 An Officer who has served for not less than six months <strong>and</strong> resigns his or her Appointmentafter giving <strong>the</strong> prescribed notice or because <strong>of</strong> ill health will be granted <strong>the</strong> accumulated leave forwhich he or she is eligible provided that:<strong>the</strong> leave shall not be included as part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> notice <strong>of</strong> termination <strong>of</strong> service; <strong>and</strong>any Officer who, while on duty, resigns <strong>and</strong> fails to give <strong>the</strong> requisite period <strong>of</strong> notice orwho pays salary in lieu <strong>of</strong> notice, will forfeit any leave for which he or she may be eligible.8.1.23 If any Officer retires or resigns during his or her leave without having given notice <strong>of</strong> his or herdesire to do so, <strong>the</strong> date at which payment <strong>of</strong> his or her salary is to cease will be determined by <strong>the</strong>(Thief Secretary according to <strong>the</strong> circumstances <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> case.9.1.24 An Officx;r who is dismissed, or has served for less than six months, or is discharged formisconduct or leaves for any reason o<strong>the</strong>r than following acceptance by Government <strong>of</strong> due notice willforfeit any leave for which he or she may be eligible.8.1.25 An Officer who absents himself from his station or his duties without leave, or who, without anacceptable excuse, fails to res,ime duty when he is due to do so, will be regarded as absent withoutpermission <strong>and</strong> will not be entitled to salary during such absence. All such absences will be reported to<strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> absence may not be set <strong>of</strong>f against any leave eligibility without<strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary.Order 8.2Sickness leave8.2.1 An Officer may be granted sick leave if he or she is ill or injured, provided that <strong>the</strong> illness orinjury prevents him or her from carrying out his or her duties <strong>and</strong> was not caused by his or her ownmisconduct or negligence.8.2.2 Sick leave over <strong>and</strong> above absences <strong>of</strong> one Working lay on full pay to cover absences fromduty due to illness or injury shall be granted by Responsible Officers on <strong>the</strong> written recommendation<strong>of</strong> a Government Medical Practitioner. Sick leave <strong>of</strong> one Working Day or less on full pay may begranted by Responsible Officers without reference to a Government Medical Practitioner. An Officerwho is absent through illness should report to a Government Medical Practitioner within 24 hours <strong>of</strong>absenting himself or herself to obtain a certificate to <strong>the</strong> effect that <strong>the</strong> absence is justified through illhealth.34
