<strong>General</strong> <strong>Orders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Turks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Caicos</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> - 1998 Editionpart <strong>of</strong> a month immediately before <strong>and</strong> a part <strong>of</strong> a month irnmediatel® after <strong>the</strong> application <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> shiftrequirement, provided that <strong>the</strong> Officer is working on a shift basis throughout this time.7 5.2 Officers who are members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Police Force <strong>and</strong> subject to a separate salary scale whichincorporates a shift working allowance are not entitled to receive this shift allowance.7.5.3 No Officer in receipt <strong>of</strong> a duty allowance which incorporates an element in respect <strong>of</strong> shiftworking is entitled to receive this shift allowance.7.5.4 Me rates <strong>of</strong> shift allowance are set out in Appendix D.Order 7.6Duty allowances7.6.1 Certain cadres are entitled to duty allowances in respect <strong>of</strong> additional duties that are inherent in<strong>the</strong>ir regular work <strong>and</strong> which are not retlected adequately in <strong>the</strong> basic salary.7.6.2 Registered nurses who are qualified <strong>and</strong> carrying out midwifery duties which involve workingoutside <strong>of</strong> Normal Working Hours are entitled to <strong>the</strong> duty allowance set out in Appendix D.7.6.3 Medical Officers who are required to attend to <strong>the</strong>ir duties outside <strong>of</strong> Normal Working Hoursare entitled to <strong>the</strong> duty allowance set out in Appendix D.7.6.4 Police Officer's who are required to work outside <strong>of</strong> Normal Working Hours on a Working Daywithout additional reimbursement are entitled to <strong>the</strong> duty allowance set out in Appendix D.7.6.5 Police Officers assigned to detective duties are entitled to claim an allowance designed tocompensate <strong>the</strong>m for providing <strong>the</strong>ir own plain clo<strong>the</strong>s for work where o<strong>the</strong>rwise <strong>the</strong>y would beentitled to a free uniform. This allowance is detailed in Appendix D.7.6.6 Prison Officers who are required to work outside <strong>of</strong> Normal Working Hours on a Working laywithout additional reimbursement are entitled to <strong>the</strong> duty allowance set out in Appendix D.Order 7.7 Subsistence allowances7.7.1 Subsistence allowances are calculated to meet only <strong>the</strong> additional expenditure which an Officertravelling on duty away from home is obliged to incur over <strong>and</strong> above <strong>the</strong> expenses that he or shewould normally incur at home.7.7.2 An Officer will submit his or her claim to his or her Responsible Officer for certification. TheOfficer will also certify as correct any receipted bills <strong>and</strong> submit <strong>the</strong>m with <strong>the</strong> claim. ResponsibleOfficers are required to satisfy <strong>the</strong>mselves personally that details <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> claim are correct, that <strong>the</strong>journey was made in <strong>the</strong> public interest <strong>and</strong> that it was completed without delay. On this basis <strong>the</strong>Responsible Officers will certify <strong>the</strong> claim as required by this Order <strong>and</strong> Financial Instructions.Permanent Secretaries will certify Department Heads' claims <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> thief Secretary will certify claimsfrom Permanent Secretaries.7.7.3 An Officer travelling on duty within <strong>the</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s will be eligible for subsistence allowance, onsubmission <strong>of</strong> receipted bills (except where <strong>the</strong> allowances are shown as unaccountable) at <strong>the</strong> rateslaid down in Appendix D.26
