<strong>General</strong> <strong>Orders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Turks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Caicos</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> - 1998 Edition7.3.4 Officers who regularly work excessive overtime as part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir normal duties will receive afixed hourly rate for such hours as determined by <strong>the</strong> Responsible Officer, subject to prior agreement<strong>and</strong> regular review by <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary. Officers entitled to payment under this Order do not receiveit as a right <strong>and</strong> it may be terminated at any time without notice by <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary who mayrequire <strong>the</strong> Responsible Officer to re-arrange rosters <strong>and</strong> working hours <strong>and</strong> to re-allocate staff to cover<strong>the</strong> workload.7.3.5 Responsible Officers should see that whenever possible an Officer's work is regulated so tha<strong>the</strong> or she is not ordinarily required to work more than 34.5 hours in a week if <strong>of</strong>fice based, or morethan 39 hours per week if directly supervising <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> iron-establishwd staff working a 39 hourweek. These hours include lunch breaks.Order 7.4Acting <strong>and</strong> responsibility allowances7.4.1 An Officer authorised by <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary to act in an Office more senior tha.r Iris or herown, providing that <strong>the</strong> Acting Appointment continues for at least twenty eight days, shall receive anadditional allowance in respect. <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> period calculated as follows:<strong>the</strong> difference between <strong>the</strong> Officer's substantive salary <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> minimum salary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> seniorOffice, unless<strong>the</strong> Officer's substantive salary exceeds <strong>the</strong> minimum salary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> senior Office, <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong>first incremental point immediately in excess <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Officer's substantive salary.7.4.2 Where an Officer discharges <strong>the</strong> responsibilities <strong>of</strong> ano<strong>the</strong>r more senior post at <strong>the</strong> same time as<strong>the</strong> duties <strong>of</strong> his or her own substantive post, <strong>the</strong>n at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary aresponsibility allowance may be paid, provided that <strong>the</strong> additional responsibilities are discharged for acontinuous period <strong>of</strong> more than seven days <strong>and</strong> represent a substantial increase in responsibility <strong>and</strong>workload for <strong>the</strong> Officer for this time.7.4.3 Notwithst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>the</strong> provisions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> this Order, it shall be <strong>the</strong> normal practice forOfficers to cover <strong>the</strong> duties <strong>and</strong> responsibilities <strong>of</strong> absent colleagues or vacant posh in <strong>the</strong>irDepartments without additional recompense.7.4.4 The payment <strong>of</strong> all acting <strong>and</strong> responsibility allowances is contingent upon sufficient provisionfor <strong>the</strong>m having been made in <strong>the</strong> personal emoluments provisions in <strong>the</strong> Annual Estimates.7.4.5 No Officer may be permitted to act or cover <strong>the</strong> responsibilities <strong>of</strong> an Office more than twosalary grades above his or her own substantive salary grade.7.4.6 Acting <strong>and</strong> responsibility allowances, where authorised, are payable from <strong>the</strong> date <strong>the</strong> Officerassumes <strong>the</strong> responsibilities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> senior Appointment up to <strong>the</strong> date immediately prior to that onwhich he or she h<strong>and</strong>s over <strong>the</strong> responsibilities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Office.7.4.7 An Officer appointed to act in a higher Office will be eligible for subsistence <strong>and</strong> transportallowances at <strong>the</strong> rates prescribed for <strong>the</strong> senior Office.Order 7.5Shift allowance7.5.1 Officers who are regularly required to work on a shift basis may be entitled to receive a shiftallowance for each complete month that <strong>the</strong> shift requirement covers.
