<strong>General</strong> <strong>Orders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Turks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Caicos</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> - 1998 Edition10.3.2 Responsible Officers are responsible for ensuring that all public buildings in <strong>the</strong>ir charge aremade secure on notification <strong>of</strong> a hurricane or tropical storm alert or warning.10.3.3 The responsibility for maintaining all Government buildings is vested in <strong>the</strong> Chief Engineer,<strong>Public</strong> Works Department., whose duty it is to repair all damage to property chargeable to public fundsincluding that which occurs through <strong>the</strong> fault or neglect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> authorised occupiers.10.3.4 No alteration or improvements to a public building may be made or undertaken at public costwithout <strong>the</strong> authority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chief Engineer. Where alteration, addition or improvements are required<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> Responsible Officer will apply to <strong>the</strong> Chief Engineer stating <strong>the</strong> requirements in detail <strong>and</strong>ftilly explaining <strong>the</strong> necessity or desirability <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> proposed work.10.3.5 Responsible Officers will ensure that arrangements are made for all Govenunent buildings <strong>and</strong>grounds in <strong>the</strong>k charge to be kept <strong>and</strong> maintained in a clean, neat md orderly condition.10.3.6 Before or immediately after occupation is taken <strong>of</strong> a Government building <strong>the</strong> ResponsibleOfficer will call for <strong>the</strong> keys <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> building <strong>and</strong> will report any defect or damage which may beobserved to <strong>the</strong> Chief Engineer.10.3.7 Officers entreated with <strong>the</strong> keys to Government buildings are personally responsible for <strong>the</strong>adequate care <strong>of</strong> those keys . The loss <strong>of</strong> any keys in circumstances suggesting negligence by <strong>the</strong>Officer concerned will render him or her personally responsible for any expense incurred by <strong>the</strong>Government in <strong>the</strong>ir replacement or in ftimishing <strong>and</strong> fitting new locks <strong>and</strong> keys.10.3.8 Responsible Officers are required to keep a register <strong>of</strong> all keys to buildings <strong>and</strong> Officers towhom keys are issued for retention will be required to acknowledge <strong>the</strong> receipt <strong>of</strong> keys by sigmture in<strong>the</strong> register. Any loss <strong>of</strong> keys must be reported at once to <strong>the</strong> Responsible Officer.10.3.9 The Chief Accountant will keep all duplicate keys <strong>of</strong> safes in <strong>the</strong> treasury vault <strong>and</strong> maintain arecord <strong>of</strong> all safes <strong>and</strong> Officers to whom safe keys are issued. Officers to whom safe keys are issuedare personally responsible for <strong>the</strong>ir security <strong>and</strong> must ixqwt losses immediately to <strong>the</strong> ChiefAccountant.MADE this day <strong>of</strong> February, 1998.JOHN PHILIP KELLY, LVO MBEGOVERNOR*******************43
