<strong>General</strong> <strong>Orders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Turks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Caicos</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> - 1998 Edition2.6.4 At this time <strong>the</strong>y will cease to be covered by <strong>the</strong>se <strong>Orders</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir terms <strong>and</strong> conditions <strong>of</strong>employment will be determined by any contract <strong>of</strong> employment that may be agreed between <strong>the</strong> person<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> employing authority. They will become entitled to <strong>the</strong> benefits <strong>and</strong> payments that wouldordinarily be due to <strong>the</strong>m had <strong>the</strong>y satisfactorily ended <strong>the</strong>ir employment with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> at thistime.Order 2.7Probation2.7.1 All permanent Appointments will be on Probationary terms. These terms require that an Officerwill serve a Probationary period <strong>of</strong> two years on initial Appointnwnt to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>and</strong> twelvemonths for appointments o<strong>the</strong>r than initial Appointments.2.7.2 At <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first twelve months <strong>of</strong> a two year Probationary period <strong>and</strong> at <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>first six months <strong>of</strong> a twelve month Probationary period, Responsible Officers shall submit to <strong>the</strong> ChiefSecretary a report on every Officer appointed on Probation.2.7.3 One month before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Probationary period <strong>the</strong> Responsible Officer shall submit areport to <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary <strong>and</strong> recommend one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following:that <strong>the</strong> Officer be confirmed in <strong>the</strong> Appointment;that <strong>the</strong> Probationary period be extended;that <strong>the</strong> Officer's service be terminated, (for initial Appointments only);that <strong>the</strong> Officer revert to his or her former post.2.7.4 Before any recommendation is made for <strong>the</strong> extension <strong>of</strong> a period <strong>of</strong> Probation <strong>of</strong> an Officer orfor <strong>the</strong> termination <strong>of</strong> his or her Appointment, <strong>the</strong> Responsible Officer shall inform <strong>the</strong> Officer <strong>of</strong> hisor her recommendations <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> specific reasons <strong>the</strong>refore <strong>and</strong> he or she shall invite <strong>the</strong> Officer tosubmit any representations he or she may wish to make.2.7.5 If, after considering <strong>the</strong> final report <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Responsible Officer <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary is satisfiedthat <strong>the</strong> service <strong>of</strong> an Officer on Probation has been satisfactory, <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary shall confirm hisor her Appointment with effect from <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> Appointment. If <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary is not satisfiedthat <strong>the</strong> service <strong>of</strong> an Officer on Probation has been satisfactory, she may extend <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong>Probation for a fur<strong>the</strong>r period subject to <strong>the</strong>se provisions regarding Probationary periods, <strong>the</strong>Appointment on Probation <strong>of</strong> an Officer may, at any time during <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> Probation <strong>and</strong> withoutany reason being given, be terminated by <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary.2.7.6 Where <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> Probation <strong>of</strong> an Officer has been extended <strong>and</strong> he or she is subsequentlyconfirmed in his or her Appointment, <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary may, subject to entitlement under <strong>the</strong> rules <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> grade <strong>and</strong> salary structure given at Appendix C, approve payment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Officer's increment:With effect fropi, <strong>the</strong> date it was due had this period <strong>of</strong> Probation not been extended; ortwelve months after <strong>the</strong> date it was due.2.7.7 When an Officer is appointed to a Pensionable Office after NonPensionable service in anOffice in which he or she has been performing, <strong>the</strong> same or similar duties, <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> his or herProbation in <strong>the</strong> Pensionable Office may be reduced by <strong>the</strong> length <strong>of</strong> his or her Non-Pensionableservice, provided that <strong>the</strong>re is no break hemeen his or her Non-Pensionable <strong>and</strong> Pensionable service.8
