ECPBare also mandated to manage three MPAs within the Eastern Cape through an agreementwith MCM. ECPB is relatively new to marine conservation, having only commenced withMPA management at the end <strong>of</strong> 2007.Organisational StructureECPB has four departments: Conservation, Human Resources, Finance andCommercialisation. The province has been divided into three sections; Eastern, Central andWestern, each <strong>of</strong> which is managed by a Regional Manager who reports to the ExecutiveDirector <strong>of</strong> Conservation. All three <strong>of</strong> the MPAs which are managed by the ECPB fall underone Regional Manager. There are reserve managers and field staff who perform both marineand terrestrial duties in the three parks adjacent to MPAs in the Eastern section. TheConservation department also has a Scientific Services section, which has initiated marinebiodiversity monitoring in the MPAs, and a People and Parks section, which liaises withcommunities and aim to strengthen co-management relationships.Pg 39
