A positive <strong>in</strong>itiative is <strong>the</strong> organization of <strong>the</strong> National Art Crafts Fair by CEDARTE. In 2009, <strong>the</strong><br />
third edition of <strong>the</strong> fair took place from 3–8 September <strong>in</strong> Maputo, br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r more than 30<br />
exhibitors showcas<strong>in</strong>g more than 300 product l<strong>in</strong>es of 100 per cent handmade quality items. Accord<strong>in</strong>g<br />
to <strong>the</strong> organizers, <strong>the</strong> event was successful and recorded sales amount<strong>in</strong>g to over 720,000 meticais.<br />
Mozambique has a vast range of natural resources suitable <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> craft production of handcrafts, along<br />
with a large pool of talented artisans and strong cultural traditions throughout <strong>the</strong> country. 118<br />
Nairucu Arts is one active association established <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> preservation and development of Makonde<br />
Art. The Makonde Art is typical of <strong>the</strong> North of Mozambique and it consists ma<strong>in</strong>ly of wood carv<strong>in</strong>gs<br />
made <strong>in</strong> ebony, sandal wood or light wood.<br />
