Almost all the CHT households have at least oneagriculture related income source, and some <strong>of</strong> them earn frommultiple sources related with agriculture. On the whole, theindigenous households are more related with agriculture than theBangalees. The cumulative percentage <strong>of</strong> indigenous households hasreported income from the agriculture related source is about 136%,while the same for the Bangalees is 96%.The average annual net income <strong>of</strong> a rural household in the regionirrespective <strong>of</strong> ethnicities is about Tk. 65,852, while the same inrural Bangladesh (at the current price <strong>of</strong> January 2008) is about1.28 times higher. Community wise analysis reveals that householdannual net income <strong>of</strong> the Bangalees in CHT though less than that <strong>of</strong>the rural Bangladesh is comparatively higher than that <strong>of</strong> averageindigenous community households (Tk. 71,031 vs. Tk. 61,641).Over 50% <strong>of</strong> the annual net income <strong>of</strong> all CHT households comesfrom sources related with agriculture; non-farm wages constituteabout 15% closely followed by business related sources (13%). Theshare <strong>of</strong> agriculture related source in generating net annual income<strong>of</strong> all indigenous households is higher as compared to the Bangalees(63% vs. 49%).On the whole, about 7% <strong>of</strong> the household annual net income (Tk.4,471) has been contributed by the working and/or income earningwomen members <strong>of</strong> the household. For Bangalee households, thecontribution <strong>of</strong> women in generating household income is only 4%while the same among the indigenous communities is about 11%.
