Almost all the socio-<strong>economic</strong> activities arebeing performed around this unit. It isdefinedd as a dwelling unit where one or more persons live andeat together under a commoncookingarrangement. Matrimonial or blood-relatedrelations exist among most <strong>of</strong> the personswho reside in the dwelling (BBS, 2007a) .4.2In order to obtain an idea about thehousehold (HH) size in therural CHT,Figure 4.1: Household size <strong>of</strong> CHT by communityinformation about the number<strong>of</strong> householdAll CHT5.2members have been gathered in the survey.IPs : All5.1The findings reveal that on average a CHTBangalee5.4household comprises 5.2 members (FigureBawm5.84.1), which is slightly larger than theChak5.2national average (4.8 members). AmongChakma5indigenous communities the same is 5.1, Khiang5.5Khumi6. .2while an average Bangalee householdLusai5comprises <strong>of</strong> 5.4persons. The surveyMarma4.9reveals that the Mros, the Khumis, theMro6.3Bawmsand Tanchangyas have relativelyPangkhua4.5larger number <strong>of</strong> household members (6.3,Tanchangya5.76.2, 5.8and 5.7 respectively)as comparedTripura5.5to othercommunities. An average Chakmahousehold consistss <strong>of</strong> about 5 members. The Pangkhuas have the average HH size <strong>of</strong>4.5 andthe Marmas 4.9.4.34.3.1IntroductionHouseholdsizeAgeAge StructureAnalysis <strong>of</strong> age structure shows thatmajority<strong>of</strong> theCHT population iscomparatively young, so asthe overallBangladesh population. About 58% <strong>of</strong> thepopulation is below24 years <strong>of</strong> age whichis similar to that <strong>of</strong> national average.
