AdmissionADMISSIONCommon Elements of Applications for Education DegreesThe following application elements are common for all students seekingadmission to graduate degree programs in education.Master’s Level and Advanced Certificate1. Application for admission to the Graduate College are to be sent tothe Office of Admissions and Records, 901 W. Illinois.2. Official copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts are tobe sent directly to the department office.3. Departments within the College of Education may have additionalentrance requirements.Doctoral Level1. Master’s degree with a major in education or an appropriate relatedsubject is required.2. Application for admission to the Graduate College is to be sent to theOffice of Admissions and Records, 901 W. Illinois.3. Test scores are to be sent to the department office:DepartmentTest requiredEducational Organizationand LeadershipCurriculum and InstructionEducational Policy StudiesEducational PsychologyHuman ResourceNo tests are requiredAll applicants to science education, earlychildhood education program,instructional technology, andmathematics education; must take GREtests. Departments within the College of Education may require additionalapplication information.Application ProcessingAPPLY ON-LINE – GRAD CONNECThttp://www.grad.UIUC.edu/forms/index.html the web-basedapplication system for graduate admissions, is now available. We wouldlike to encourage graduate students to apply using this new systemwhich will allow students to track their admission progress and conductmost of the admission process, including credit card payments,electronically.An application for admission to the Graduate College may be obtainedfrom the departmental office in the academic area of specialization orfrom 120 Education Building. Requests for applications can also besubmitted by E-mail to admissions@mail.ed.uiuc.edu. Once submitted,the application is processed and coded by the admissions processingoffice. The admission fee that accompanies the application serves as anonrefundable processing fee. Once the application is coded, it isforwarded from the admissions processing office to the Departmentwithin the College of Education.Upon receipt of the coded application and other required materials, themajor department reviews it and makes a recommendation foradmission or denial. This recommendation is sent to the InstructionalPrograms Office which acts on the recommendation. Therecommendation is forwarded to the graduate admissions office for bothprocessing and Graduate College approval. The applicant usuallyreceives notification of recommendation for acceptance or denial fromthe departmental area of specialization before receiving notification fromthe admissions processing office. The action of the admissionsprocessing office is the official decision.10
