One of the main tasks of the faculty is toensure that public <strong>health</strong> professionals receive high quality training. This includesensuring that these future professionals have basic knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills concerningOSH.Aims <strong>and</strong> ObjectivesThe aim of the course of <strong>occupational</strong> <strong>safety</strong> fundamentals is to provide basicknowledge, skills <strong>and</strong> competencies in the area of <strong>occupational</strong> <strong>and</strong> fire <strong>safety</strong>. Itcovers legal provisions <strong>and</strong> requirements for the working environment, protectionprinciples <strong>and</strong> methods <strong>and</strong> ways to reduce <strong>occupational</strong> risk. The programme takes<strong>into</strong> account the regulations <strong>and</strong> requirements regarding risk assessment <strong>and</strong> includesthe use of suitable protective equipment.S c o p eCourse content, structure <strong>and</strong> durationThe course of <strong>occupational</strong> <strong>safety</strong> fundamentals, carried out by professional staffof the Faculty of Public Health, targets the B.Sc. students of the faculty during onesemester of their education. The content of the programme covers basic OSHsubjects:OO accident losses;OO liabilities <strong>and</strong> <strong>safety</strong> legislation, workers compensation, OSH Legal Acts;OO management <strong>and</strong> its responsibilities for <strong>safety</strong>;OO hazards <strong>and</strong> their control;OO promoting safe practices;OO appraising plant <strong>safety</strong>;OO planning for emergencies;OO ‘Human – Machine – Environment’ system;OO organisational <strong>and</strong> technical means;OO collective <strong>and</strong> personal protective means, acceleration;OO falls, falling objects <strong>and</strong> other impacts, mechanical injuries;OO heat <strong>and</strong> temperature;OO pressure hazards;OO electrical hazards;OO lightning <strong>safety</strong>;OO fires <strong>and</strong> fire suppression;OO explosions <strong>and</strong> explosives;OO hazards of toxic materials;OO radiation, vibration <strong>and</strong> noise;OO essential <strong>safety</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>health</strong> requirements for technological processes, workstations,work equipment <strong>and</strong> work process;OO potentially dangerous equipment <strong>and</strong> dangerous works; <strong>and</strong>OO accident investigations.The structure of the didactic activities consists of lectures, seminars, practical work<strong>and</strong> individual work. The lectures for students are divided <strong>into</strong> 20 units. The diversityof methods used includes individual <strong>and</strong> group work, case studies, brainstormingsessions, individual studies, <strong>and</strong> preparing group reports.108
