<strong>STP</strong> <strong>10</strong>-<strong>92A34</strong>-<strong>SM</strong>-<strong>TG</strong>Subject Area 2: Field OperationsEstablish a Field Storage Site<strong>10</strong>1-92A-3002Conditions: Assigned as a platoon sergeant or the noncommissioned officer-in-charge (NCOIC) of aDirect Support Unit's (DSU) Supply Support Activity (SSA) with the responsibility to establish a fieldstorage site. Given various classes of supplies <strong>and</strong> organizational equipment; Modified Table ofOrganization <strong>and</strong> Equipment (MTOE) equipment, to include: tents, trucks, trailers, containers, shelters,Materiel H<strong>and</strong>ling Equipment (MHE); the St<strong>and</strong>ard Army Retail Supply System computer equipmentincluding server <strong>and</strong> workstation(s); the Materiel Release Order Control System (MROCS); theAutomated Manifest System (AMS); the Combat Service Support Automated Information SystemInterface (CAISI); the Combat Service Support Very Small Aperture Terminal (CSS VSAT); RadioFrequency Automatic Identification (RFID) equipment; refrigeration equipment; power generationequipment; lighting equipment, appropriate manuals <strong>and</strong> regulations.St<strong>and</strong>ards: Selected a location <strong>and</strong> established a field storage site to be occupied by the SSA inaccordance with FM <strong>10</strong>-15.Performance Steps1. Conduct site survey. (References: FM <strong>10</strong>-15, Chapter 5; FM <strong>10</strong>-27-2, Chapter 3, Section 1; <strong>and</strong>FM <strong>10</strong>-27-3, Chapter 4, Section 1)a. Identify location given by the comm<strong>and</strong>er for supply operations.NOTE: Based on the Contemporary Operating Environment (COE), some steps may not apply.NOTE: When selecting a site, security should be your primary consideration. Keep in mind that fieldsituations seldom allow your unit to operate under ideal conditions. You may have to make tradeoffs. Ifyou must, consider your mission <strong>and</strong> the type <strong>and</strong> location of the threat.(1) Ensure area can be adequately defended.(2) Ensure area has enough roads to allow supplies <strong>and</strong> equipment to be loaded, unloaded,<strong>and</strong> moved quickly.(3) Ensure area can support type of communication being used (for example, satellite musthave clear view of the southern sky).(4) Ensure area is away from l<strong>and</strong>marks that may be used by the enemy as reference points.(5) Ensure area is near a main supply route (MSR) or airfield.(6) Ensure adequate space for all sections <strong>and</strong> commodities.(7) Ensure area has adequate drainage.(8) Ensure area provides cover <strong>and</strong> concealment for tents <strong>and</strong> equipment.(9) Inspect buildings to ensure they can be used for supply distribution (when required).(<strong>10</strong>) Inspect building(s) to ensure they are free of insects <strong>and</strong> rodents.b. Prepare a field storage site layout plan.(1) Prepare a sketch of the designated area.(2) Prepare an overlay to include the following:(a) Identify individual fighting positions.(b) Identify crew served fighting positions.(c) Identify Class IX storage locations.(d) Identify a marshalling area for frustrated cargo.(e) Identify Class X storage locations (if required).(f) Identify directions of traffic flow <strong>and</strong> parking areas.NOTE: Traffic moving through the supply area should be one way. This facilitates smooth movementthrough the area.(g) Identify different types of industrial gases.(h) Identify location for tactical communications.(i) Identify location for RFID/AIT equipment.7 May 2008 3-9
