Indicator 6.2: Condom use at last high-risk sexAccording to BDHS 2011, the rate of condom use among married couples is low. It was 3percent in 1993-94 which has increased to 5.5 percent in 2011 and is unlikely to scale upsignificantly by 2015. The data from Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey(MICS) 2006 (BBS/UNICEF 2007) indicate that only 15.8 percent of 15-24 year old womenhad comprehensive correct knowledge of HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh. On the other hand, thedata from MICS 2009 (BBS/UNICEF 2010) recorded a slight drop to 14.6 percent. Onereason for this drop may be the transitory nature of the age cohort which indicates the needfor continuous rather than one time interventions to cater for the new entrants into the agecohort.Indicator 6.4: Ratio of school attendance of orphans to school attendance of non-orphansaged 10-14 years74
In the absence of robust data on the actual number of children orphaned by AIDS, it isbelieved that due to the very low prevalence of HIV in Bangladesh and coupled withinformation available from community-based organizations involved in providing supportand care for people living with HIV, the number of AIDS-specific orphans currently is verylow in Bangladesh.Target 6.B: Achieve, by 2010, universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS for all those whoneed itIndicator 6.5: Proportion of population with advanced HIV infection with access toantiretroviral drugsThe United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) Report 2009 shows theproportion of population with advanced HIV infection with access to antiretroviral drugscoverage is 47.7 percent (353/740) in Bangladesh based on a study.
