28 BSL PRO ManualSetting up channelsTo configure the number of channels to be acquired during recording, select Set Up Channels from the MPmenu. This will generate the Input Channels Setup dialog. The default is to collect one channel of data on Analog channel CH1, and to plot and list values forthis channel. Usually, you will want to check all three boxes for each channel you acquire data on.Four analog channels are available in MP36/MP35 hardware, two analog channels in MP45 hardware.Digital channels are not supported in MP45 hardware.AcquirePlotValueChannelLabelPresetChannelSamplingRateWhen the Acquire box is checked for a given channel that means data will be collected on thatchannel.Determines if data will be plotted in real-time during the acquisition. If the plot box is unchecked, data will still be recorded, but the associated channel will remain hidden. The channel (and data)can be “unhidden” by positioning the mouse pointer over the channel number box andAlt+clicking.Enables you to use the Show Input Values window to display the values for each channel in realtime, numerically and/or graphically. These values are displayed in a separate window from themain graph window. This is a dynamic alpha-numeric heading based on the type of channel selected: Analog (orcontinuous), Digital, or Calculation. In the sample above, “CH1” indicates Analog channel one.In contrast to analog data, Digital channels collect binary data that represent when a measuringinstrument is “on” or “off.” For example, records whether an internal switch is open or closed, asin reaction time studies or control applications. Digital channels are acquired, plotted, and havevalues listed in the same fashion as analog channels. Digital channels are not supported in MP45hardware.Calculation channels are used for online computations and transformations of other channels. These channels are Set Up just as analog and digital channels but also have additional dialogs foryou to specify what types of transformations and computations you would like to perform. For adetailed summary of Calculation channel options, see the Calculation Channel section beginningon page 111.To the right of each channel number is an editable label for each channel, where you can type alabel identifying what each channel is measuring.Analog and Calculation channels include Presets as a quick way to get started—choose a presetand the software automatically sets the gain, offset, etc. appropriate for the selected application.Choose from the list of available presets or create a custom preset; see page 99 for details. The channel sample rate is a function of the acquisition sample rate: all channel sample rateoptions are equal to or less than the acquisition sample rate (as established via “MP> Set Up Acquisition”). The options are a specific power of 2 less than the acquisitionsample rate. Channel sample rate info is included in the Display > Channel Info dialog. Usethe pull-down menu to set the channel sample rate. See page 100 for details.Visit the online support center at www.biopac.com
