11 Cleaning the meter and lancing device11 Cleaning the meter and lancing device11.1 Cleaning the meterThe mode of operation of the meter with the test cassettemeans that the meter will not normally come intocontact with blood or control solution. Regular cleaningis therefore not necessary. In the event the meterbecoming soiled through improper use, cleaning it maybecome necessary.use only cold water or 70 % ethanol for cleaning.Any other cleaning agents may damage themeter or impair its measuring function.use a lightly moistened cloth or a lightly moistenedcotton swab. do not spray anything ontothe meter and do not immerse it in the cleaningfluid. Doing so may damage its internal componentsand stop it from working properly.The outsideIf the casing of the meter or the display is visibly soiled:Wipe with a cloth lightly moistened with cold water or70 % ethanol.192
Cleaning the meter and lancing device 11The insideyou only need to clean the inside of the meter if: the area around the tip of the cassette is visiblysoiled, the error message e-4 with the text “See user’s<strong>Manual</strong>” is displayed; the error message might becaused by fluff, crumbs, etc. inside the tip of thecassette.To enable you to clean the inside of the meter, youhave to open Clean in the Tools menu and then removethe test cassette (see next page).If the error message e-4 was displayed, a testi area is lost when you later reinsert the testcassette.193
