GQMS Year 3 Annual ReportJuly 2010 – June 2011Section 1: Significant Review Activity and AccomplishmentsTraining UpdatesDuring the year GQMS successfully completed a total <strong>of</strong> 37 sessions with 1,011 attendees. The trainingand education plan for GQMS completed all sessions with positive response from attendees. Eachsession was developed in collaboration with DBHDD- Division <strong>of</strong> Developmental Disabilities andincluded Physical Nutritional <strong>Management</strong>, Social Connections, Goals to Action, True Choice, Power <strong>of</strong>Roles and Documentation 101: Template Training.<strong>Georgia</strong>’s stakeholders were receptive to new concepts and ideas expressed in each session. Each sessionwas developed specifically from feedback received during 2009-2010 training sessions conducted anddata collected from all GQMS activities.Physical and Nutrition <strong>Management</strong>This training session was developed by Delmarva’s Certified Developmental Disabilities RegisteredNurse Linda Tupper, designed specifically for staff that supports people who require physical andnutritional management. Training emphasized posture and position, and their effect on a person’sfunctioning. The nutritional management segment emphasized the way in which food is synthesized andeliminated with particular focus on areas <strong>of</strong> concern including dehydration, constipation, gastroesophageal reflux and aspiration. The session focused on sensory and motor challenges.Power <strong>of</strong> RolesThe Power <strong>of</strong> Roles training was developed to assist support coordinators and providers understand howindividuals with developmental disabilities are <strong>of</strong>ten de-valued as citizens, and to learn ways to helpincrease the value <strong>of</strong> individuals with developmental disabilities. The purpose <strong>of</strong> this event was to giveparticipants a practical introduction to the concept <strong>of</strong> Social Role Valorization (SRV) and some <strong>of</strong> itsmain elements. SRV provides a framework for supporting persons who are or are at risk <strong>of</strong> beingdevalued by society. Participants learned to understand the power <strong>of</strong> social roles to counteract some <strong>of</strong>the effects <strong>of</strong> devaluation. This training series was conducted in collaboration with the <strong>Georgia</strong>Advocacy Office (GAO).Social ConnectionsSocial Connections was designed to support the person’s team in identifying what is important to andimportant for the person based upon individual interests, and to help develop and maintain communityconnections based upon those interests. The training also utilized scenarios to introduce the concept <strong>of</strong>education, exploration and experience to identify different community activities surroundingindividualized interest. The goal <strong>of</strong> the training is to assist support coordinators and providers toovercome barriers to social networking and build strategies to support integrated community connectionactivities.________________________________________________________________________________________________August 31, 2011 16
