Supporting Our Partners’ Community EffortsFrom Seattle to Shanghai, our partners have demonstrated<strong>the</strong>ir strong desire to engage in <strong>the</strong>ir local communitiesthrough volunteerism. <strong>Starbucks</strong> volunteer program in<strong>the</strong> U.S. and Canada – Make Your Mark (MYM) – wasintroduced five years ago as a way to encourage and supportour partners’ volunteer efforts. Through MYM, <strong>Starbucks</strong>matches our partners’ volunteer efforts by donating $10for every hour volunteered to <strong>the</strong> designated nonprofitorganization, up to $1,000 per project. If our partners enlist<strong>the</strong> help of customers, <strong>Starbucks</strong> matches <strong>the</strong>ir volunteerhours, too. Since its inception, MYM has inspired our U.S.and Canadian partners and customers to volunteer morethan 792,000 hours for thousands of local communityorganizations. That’s equivalent to about 380 people workingfull-time for one year. (See graphs below.)<strong>Starbucks</strong> also encourages our U.S. and Canadian partnersto make <strong>the</strong>ir own charitable gifts with support from <strong>the</strong>company’s gift-matching program, Choose to Give! <strong>Starbucks</strong>matches our partners’ charitable gifts, dollar for dollar, upto $1,000 annually. In fiscal 2005, 2,196 of our partners’charitable contributions were matched with $532,000from <strong>Starbucks</strong>.The nonprofit organization Keep Houston Beautiful not only received cash supportfrom <strong>Starbucks</strong> in 2005, it also got help from some <strong>Starbucks</strong> partners in Houstonwho volunteered on Earth Day, including Maggie Suarez (left) and Mary Voorhies.Make Your Mark * Includes 110,000 hours and $697,000 for September Make Your Mark, a unique volunteer program that took place in 2003.39SOCIETY
