Recycling is as important toStarbucks as it is to our customers.In many of our company-operatedstores, our baristas separaterecyclable materials and placethem in designated behindthe-countercontainers notvisible from the customer area.While our paper cups are notrecyclable, we do recyclecardboard, plastics and othermaterials whenever possible.(See page 55 for moreinformation.)The necessary plastic coating that makes our paper cups usable for hot beveragesalso makes these cups nonrecyclable. However we are taking steps to reduce theenvironmental impact related to our paper cups. Beginning in 2006, Starbuckspaper cups will be made with 10 percent post-consumer recycled paper fiber, thusreducing the use of virgin tree fiber.49ENVIRONMENT
