Chapter 5: Song Mode• The SMPTE start field:This five-part field sets the SMPTE number associated with theexact beginning of the song. Also called SMPTE offset, this is theSMPTE number which, when the <strong>MPC</strong><strong>3000</strong> is syncing to SMPTE,denotes the beginning of the song. Normally, this is set to all zeroes(00:00:00:00.00). The five parts are Hours:Minutes:Seconds:Frames.HundrethFrames.• The Contents of step field:This shows the current step number (1-250) within the active song.The data displayed below this field are the data contained withinthis step.• The Sqnc field:This field indicates the sequence number contained in the currentstep. The selected sequence’s name is displayed to the right.• The Reps(0=end) field:This field indicates the number of repetitions that the sequence inthe current step will play before moving on to the next step. Forexample, if you want the sequence to play only once in the currentstep, a 1 should be entered here. If a 0 is entered here, the <strong>MPC</strong><strong>3000</strong>will treat this step as the end of the song, and either stop playing orloop to a previous step number, depending on the setting of theLoop field.• The Bars field:This field shows the total number of bars in the selected sequence. Itis for display only and can’t be edited.• The Tempo field:This field shows the sequence tempo (the tempo value stored withinthe sequence—not the master tempo) of the selected sequence.• The Now field:This has nearly the same function as in the Play/Record screen,except that in Song mode this number refers to the current positionwithin the song, not within the sequence.• The soft key:This key is used for inserting a new step into a song, deleting a step,or deleting an entire song.
