Chapter 9: Saving to and Loading from Disk== Change Power-On SCSI Search Delay ===Power-on SCSI search delay (secs):30(If no hard disk attached, enter 0 tobypass delay at power-on.)========================================The single data field sets the amount of time that the SCSI port isscanned when the power is turned on. By default, it is set to 30seconds. To eliminate the power-on delay, change the field’s contentsto 0.If you are using a hard disk and it is not being recognized by theMPC3000 when the power for both devices is turned on simultaneously,then your hard disk may require more than 30 seconds tospin up to operating speed. If so, try changing the value in thisscreen to 45 seconds or longer.Formatting a SCSI hard disk for the MCP3000To format the external SCSI hard disk, turn power off for both thehard drive and the MPC3000 and connect the hard drive to theMPC3000’s SCSI port. (Warning: Never connect or disconnectany SCSI device while power is on. This could seriouslydamage both the device itself and the MPC3000.) Then turnthe power on to both the SCSI drive and the MPC3000. Next, pressthe DISK key and select option 9 (Copy, format disk) fromthe menu screen followed by option 3 from the subsequent menu.The following screen will appear:=========== Format Hard Disk ===========Select hard disk type:SYQUESTFormatting will erase all existing dataand divide the disk into 'partitions' ofless than 30 megabytes each.========================================The field has two options: STANDARD and SYQUEST. If your driveis a Syquest removable, select that option; if not, select STANDARD.The screen warns that the hard disk’s storage space must be dividedinto up to 26 partitions of no more than 30 megabytes each. Thesepartitions are called partition A, partition B, and so on. In each ofthe save and load operations, you will be allowed to select whichpartition to save to or load from.Page 188
