To purchase any of these items, contact your Akai retailer. These options should be installed only by an authorized Akairetailer or service center. The SMPTE OptionThe I-0055 SMPTE option gives your MPC3000 the ability to playin sync to externally received SMPTE sync signals in one of fourframe formats: 24, 25, 29.97 drop, and 30. This option is not neededto generate SMPTE code.To Service TechniciansInstallation of the I-0055 SMPTE/EBU IC chip1. Open the operation panel of the MPC3000; Detach the CPU jackdaughter board (L4012B509B) on the CPU main board(L4012A5010) by removing the 3 screws.2. Attach the I-0055 IC chip to the IC26 socket on the CPU mainboard (L4012A5010). Make sure that the No. 1 pin of the I-0055chip is correctly placed as guided by the mark.3. Replace the CPU jack daughter board (L4012B509B) on the CPUmain board (L4012A5010).Expanding the Sound MemoryThe MPC3000 includes 2 megabytes of sound memory but is expandableusing common SIMM 1 megabyte or 4 megabyte memorymodules and an 8 megabyte memory board from Akai, theEXM3008. Internally, there are two SIMM sockets and one connectorfor an Akai memory board. When the MPC3000 is shipped fromthe factory, its SIMM sockets are empty and the Akai connectorcontains an Akai 2 megabyte memory board. You can expand thememory in either or both of two ways:1. In the SIMM sockets, install either a pair of 1 megabyte SIMMs(adding 2 megabytes) or a pair of 4 megabyte SIMMs (adding 8megabytes). You must fill both sockets and the 2 SIMMs installedmust be identical. The SIMM modules must have a speed of 150nanoseconds (ns) or faster.2. Remove the standard 2 megabyte Akai memory board from itssocket and replace it with an Akai 8 megabyte memory board, theEXM3008.Page 229
