These fields are used to play one of threesounds depending on the envelope decay setting:1. If the received note’s envelope decay is less thanor equal to the value in the first If over field,then only the sound selected in the Sound fieldplays.2. If the received note’s envelope decay is greaterthan the value in the first If over field butless than or equal to the value in the second Ifover field, then only the note number selected inthe first use field plays.3. If the received note’s envelope decay is greaterthan the value in the second If over field, thenonly the sound assigned to the note numberselected in the second use field plays.(The second If over field is limited to values atleast one higher than the first If over field.)COMMENT: This feature is provided primarily to emulatethe MPC60’s Hi-hat Decay Slider. Whenever the Hi-hatpad on an MPC60 is played, one of three different sounds(closed, loose or open hi-hat) plays depending on the sliderposition. Also, the slider varies the envelope decay time ofthe selected sound. On the MPC3000, this same functioncan be achieved by selecting DCY SW in the Mode field.Because Note Variation decay data in sequenced drumnotes overrides the program’s envelope decay setting, itwill also determine which of 3 sounds (e.g., closed, mediumand open hi-hats) will play while simultaneouslyvarying envelope decay of the selected sound. If an MPC60SET file is loaded from disk, these parameters are automaticallyset to emulate the MPC60 Hi-hat Decay Slideras part of the conversion to an MPC3000 program.COMMENT: Regardless of which pad plays, the individualprogram parameter data (tuning, envelope, velocitydata, etc.) for each of the three note numbers are used butonly the main note number’s mixer data (mix volume andpan, output assignment, and output/effects mix level) arePage 123
