A prosthetist cares for patientswith partial or total absence of limb by designing, fabricating and fittingdevices known as prostheses. The prosthetist’s duties include assistingwith formulating prescriptions for prostheses, taking measurements,cast taking, model modifications, selection of materials and components,patient fittings, alignment of the prosthesis on the patient, andmaintaining patient records. After a mandatory one-year NationalCommission of Orthotic and Prosthetic Education approved residency,the prosthetist may take the National Certification Exam.Application Requirements:1. A Bachelor’s Degree in any major2. Three semester or four quarter credits with a grade of “C” or higher isrecommended in each of the following courses:- Biology- Physics- Chemistry- Psychology- <strong>College</strong> Algebra or Higher Math3. Minimum of 4 semester or 5 quarter credits is recommended in:- Human Anatomy, including a Lab- Human Physiology, including a Lab4. Prior technical experience in prosthetics is recommended.5.
