Cedric Smith is in his third seasonas the Texans head strength andconditioning coach and his 12th seasonoverall as an <strong>NFL</strong> coach. The former <strong>NFL</strong> fullbackhas implemented a vigorous off-season program thatnot only puts an emphasis on strength training and cardiovascularendurance, but also focuses on enhancingspeed and fl exibility. Smith also supervises the club’spersonalized in-season training regimen.Smith was hired as the Texans head strength and conditioningcoach following a three-year stint as KansasCity’s strength and conditioning coach. He also spentsix years as an assistant strength coach with the DenverBroncos (2001-06).Prior to joining the Broncos, Smith was a fi tness managerand consultant with Gold’s Gym in Phoenix for twoyears (1999-00) after concluding a successful sevenyear<strong>NFL</strong> playing career. During his professional playingtenure, Smith enjoyed stints with Arizona (1996-98),Washington (1994-95), New Orleans (1991) and Minnesota(1990). He fi nished his <strong>NFL</strong> career with 40 carriesfor 100 yards (2.5 avg.) with two touchdowns and 20receptions for 141 yards (7.1 avg.) with two scores. Healso had fi ve kickoff returns for 83 yards (16.6 avg.). Heoriginally entered the <strong>NFL</strong> as the second of Minnesota’stwo fi fth-round selections (131st overall) in the 1990<strong>NFL</strong> Draft. Cedric Smith fi nished hiscollegiate career with 20 starts, carrying the ball 102times for 300 yards (2.9 avg.) with four touchdowns andcatching 11 passes for 77 yards (7.0 avg.). He was athree-time Academic All-Southeastern Conference selection.Before enrolling at Florida, Smith was named All-Alabama as a fullback at Enterprise High School inEnterprise, Ala. Smith graduated from the University ofFlorida with a degree in Health Sciences in 1990.
