FOOTBALL OPERATIONSMIKE MACCAGNANDIRECTOR OF COLLEGE SCOUTINGMike Maccagnan coordinates all ofthe Texans’ college scouting effortsas the director of college scouting.In addition to evaluating college prospects, he also isinvolved with evaluating NFL teams and prospects inpreparation for NFL free agency.One of the Texans’ fi rst hires, Maccagnan initiallyjoined the club as a pro scout in January 2000 beforebeing promoted to coordinator of college scouting inApril 2000. In June 2010, he was promoted to assistantdirector of college scouting before being elevated to hiscurrent position in July 2011.Before arriving in Houston, Maccagnan spent the previoussix years as a scout for the Washington Redskins.He served as a college scout (1994) for the Redskinsbefore becoming a pro scout in 1995, although he continuedto evaluate college prospects in preparation forthe NFL draft.Prior to joining Washington, Maccagnan worked forthe Canadian Football League’s Ottawa Rough Ridersas the club’s director of scouting and director of playerpersonnel. In 1994, he was the director of scouting andplayer personnel for the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders.He also was the director of player personnel for theWorld League’s London Monarchs when that franchisecaptured the league championship in 1991. In 1990,Maccagnan worked in the World League offi ce in Dallasas a league scout. Maccagnan was a member ofthe NFL Stanford Program for managers in June, 2005.A native of Hightstown, N.J., Maccagnan holds a bachelor’sdegree in economics from Trinity (Conn.) College.After graduating from Trinity, Maccagnan served as anintern in the scouting department for the WashingtonRedskins during training camp in 1990.Mike and his wife, Betty, live in Houston.KEVIN MURPHYPRO SCOUTKevin Murphy is in his seventhseason with the Texans and sixth asa pro scout. In addition to advancescouting of Texans opponents, Murphy is responsiblefor evaluating players from teams around the NFL andthe Canadian Football League. He began his careerwith the Texans as a pro scouting intern during the 2006season.Murphy earned four letters as a long snapper at FresnoState from 1999-02 and earned a degree in recreationadministration in May 2003.Following his collegiate career, Murphy coached tightends and special teams at Western New Mexico in2003. He spent 2004-05 as a graduate assistant at MississippiState and earned a master’s degree in sportsadministration in May 2006.Murphy, a San Diego native, is single and resides inHouston.HOUSTONTEXANS.COM 49
