GAME 9: Houston 30, Cleveland 1271,515 • Reliant Stadium • Houston, Texas • Nov. 6, 2011GAME SUMMARYThe Texans defeated the Cleveland Browns 30-12 in front of a sellout crowd of 71,511 at ReliantStadium. Houston outgained its opponent 380-172and won the time of possession battle by more than10 minutes. The Texans led 14-0 midway through the fi rst quarterfollowing rushing touchdowns by RB Ben Tateand QB Matt Schaub; and the team never trailedin the game. The victory was the Texans’ third in a row andmoves the team’s record to 6-3, making it the fi rsttime in franchise history that Houston was threegames above .500.It was the third consecutive week that Houstonheld the opposing offense to less than 175 netyards. The Texans also forced a pair of turnoversand collected four sacks, including a pair from rookieOLB Brooks Reed.ILB Brian Cushing again led the Texans with sevencombined tackles, one sack and a quarterbackhurry. At the end of the fi rst half, blood streameddown his nose after S Quintin Demps’ interceptionreturn. That was the only thing that could get Cushing,a newly minted team captain, off the fi eld.The two-headed monster of running backs ArianFoster and Tate never looked better as the offenserushed for a club-record 261 yards and both playerssurpassed the 100-yard mark.Carrying a 24-3 halftime lead, the Texans usedtheir run game to grind out the clock in the secondhalf. Schaub attempted only eight passes in the fi -nal two quarters as he handed off 25 times. K NeilRackers booted a pair of fi eld goals in the fi nal 30minutes, including a 50-yarder in the fourth quarterthat gave the Texans a 30-6 lead.Schaub didn’t have the prettiest game statistically, with an interception and no touchdown passes, buthe completed 61 percent of his throws and helpedthe offense convert 64 percent of its third down tries.More importantly, he left the game unscathed withoutbeing sacked and he took only three hits.SCORINGSCORE BY PERIODS 1 2 3 4 OT TotalCleveland Browns 3 0 3 6 - 12Houston Texans 14 10 3 3 - 30SCORING DRIVESTeam Qtr Time Play Description (Extra Point) (Drive info)CLE HOUTexans 1 9:50 B.Tate 27 yd. run (N.Rackers kick) (9-82, 5:10) 0 7Texans 1 7:11 M.Schaub 2 yd. run (N.Rackers kick) (6-28, 2:29) 0 14Browns 1 3:43 P.Dawson 50 yd.
