Accordingly, the Department of <strong>Space</strong>, Government of India, in its Annual Report2001-2002 published its citizen charter.THE CITIZEN’S CHARTER OF DEPARTMENT OF SPACEThe Department of <strong>Space</strong> (DOS) has the primary objective of promoting developmentand application of space science and technology to assist in all-round development of thenation. With this end in view, DOS has developed the following programmes:(a)Launch vehicle programme – having indigenous capability <strong>for</strong> launchingspacecraft.(b) INSAT programme <strong>for</strong> telecommunications, broadcasting, meteorology,development education, etc.(c)(d)Remote sensing programme <strong>for</strong> application of satellite imagery <strong>for</strong> variousdevelopmental purposes, etc.Research and development in space sciences and technology and applications <strong>for</strong>national development.The Department is committed to:(i) Provide national space infrastructure <strong>for</strong> the telecommunication needs of the country.(ii)Provide satellite services required <strong>for</strong> weather <strong>for</strong>ecasting and monitoring.(iii) Provide satellite imagery required <strong>for</strong> the developmental and security needs of thecountry.(iv) Provide satellite imagery and specific products and services required <strong>for</strong>application of space science and technology <strong>for</strong> developmental purposes to theCentral Government, State Governments, Quasi-Governmental Organisations,NGOs and the private sector.(v)Promote research and development in space sciences and technology.While implementing the above objectives, DOS will:(a)(b)(c)Provide required transponders and facilities out of its own capacity and also hireadditional capacity if needed.Register Indian satellite system <strong>for</strong> public and private sectors.Provide its products and services in a prompt, efficient and corruption-freemanner to all the users/clients.414
