The <strong>United</strong> <strong>Nations</strong> Register of ObjectsLaunched into <strong>Outer</strong> <strong>Space</strong>Application of Article III of the Registration Convention:Register: The Register established at the <strong>Office</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Outer</strong> <strong>Space</strong> <strong>Affairs</strong>(OOSA) on behalf of the Secretary General, first documentST/SG/SER.E/1 issued on 14 April 1977. It contains in<strong>for</strong>mation onspace objects launched by the <strong>United</strong> States of America as of 31December 1976. As of 1 November 2002, OOSA has issued 419 documentscontaining registration data on 6,192 space objects.In addition, the <strong>Office</strong> continues to maintain, and transmit to theCommittee on the Peaceful Uses of <strong>Outer</strong> <strong>Space</strong>, registrationin<strong>for</strong>mation furnished by member States on a voluntary basis inaccordance with General Assembly resolution 1721 (XVI) B of 20December 1961. Such in<strong>for</strong>mation appears in document seriesA/AC.105/INF.1-407. Voluntary registration in<strong>for</strong>mation wasprovided by Brazil, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg and Malaysia.All registration in<strong>for</strong>mation is maintained by the <strong>Office</strong> in printed andelectronic <strong>for</strong>m and is continually updated. Total number of spaceobjects listed in the electronic <strong>for</strong>m of the Registry (including someobjects not officially registered) by 1 November 2002 is 12,279.About 5,600 are still orbiting around the Earth.
