Incontrast to this, however, the dispersion of answersfrom the males remains, and even though they alsoinclude attractive young women among their favourites(Yoli, «Física o Química»), they seem to prefer caricaturedadults (Amador, «La que se avecina»; Diego,«Los Serrano» and Mauricio, «Aída»). InteractionGenerally speaking, the content and the charactersare determining factors when watching a fiction programmeregularly or at least somewhat regularly, eventhough the choice of some of the participants in thefocus group is conditioned by the reception context.The interviewees tend to watch fiction primarilyalone, with a family member or with their partner, andonly rarely with friends. Women tend to watch theprogrammes alone, whereas men do so with theirfamily. By age, the 9 to 14 group and young adultsaged 18 to 23 watch the most fiction alone, albeit fordifferent reasons: the first group’s interest in animation,which the older family members rarely share, and thesecond group’s interest in major international hits,which tend to be watched on the Internet even beforethey premiere in Spain. On the other hand, adolescentsaged 15 to 17 often watch the television withother family members living in their household; therefore,this age group’s preference for family-targetedprogrammes facilitates watching programmes together.Young adults aged 24 to 29 living on their own tend toshare this form of entertainment with their partners.The decision to watch programmes alone or withsiblings stems from the diversityof tastes among parents andchildren. When their preferencesare the same, the familywatches shows on the maintelevision set in the housetogether, even though theytend not to discuss the programmes.Some young intervieweeseven confessed toavoiding watching television asa family because they wereembarrassed to watch certainprogrammes with theirparents. Outside the home,however, fiction becomes arecurring light topic of conversationthat often binds themwith other people at school orwork. However, even thoughthe interviewees tend to talkabout the fiction programmesthey watch with others, theirpreference is to do so withtheir friends.Women stand out for sharing their experiencesabout fiction with their group of friends. By age, girlsfrom 9 to 14 use fiction as a topic of conversation withtheir friends. Adolescents from 15 to 17 tend to talkabout the programmes they watch with their siblings,while the 18 to 23 age group talks less about televisionprogrammes, and the 24 to 29 age group talks aboutthem almost exclusively with their partner.3.2.1. TV and/or InternetThe difference between the number of intervieweeswho watch fiction on the television and on theInternet is quite small. Women watch more programmeson the Internet.
