INTRODUCTIONThe early Churches of God expected Christ’s returnbecause they were told Christ would come in His owngeneration, “Verily I say unto you, This generationshall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled” (Matthew24:34). Jesus said, He would come back in thenext forty years of His generation. Why did He not?FIRST PROPHECYWhat is the first warning, He prophesied would happenjust before His return? “Then if any man shall sayunto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. Forthere shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, andshall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, ifit were possible, they shall deceive the very elect” (Matthew24:23-24).Paul, The Apostle, added to the subject of The Messiah’sreturn, because of greater details. Christ said, false prophets would come, “Let no man deceive youby any means: for that day shall not come, except therecome a falling away first and that man of sin be revealed, the son [human] of perdition; Who opposes andexaltes himself above all that is called God, or that isworshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple ofGod, shewing himself that he is God” (II Thessolians2:3-4). Historically, this already transpired, “Rememberyou not, that, when I was yet with you, I told youthese things? And now you know what withholdes [in aprocess] that he might be revealed in his time. For themystery of iniquity does already work: only he who nowlets will let [Satan], until he be taken out of the way” (IIThessalonians 2:5-7).ix
