<strong>Worcestershire</strong> has some of the safest roads in England. As such, significant investment in safety focussedimprovements would be unlikely to deliver value for money during the LTP3 plan period. The approach toimproving public health and safety for existing and future users of <strong>Worcestershire</strong>'s transport networkswill involve a comprehensive approach, in particular focussing on education and training. Table 1.5 belowidentifies a number of aims focussed on public health and safety, together with the LTP3 policies whichwill enable each aim to be realised.Table 1.5 – LTP3 Public Health and Safety Aims and Linked PoliciesIn rural areas seek to achieve an acceptable balance between costs and benefits, such that speedmanagementpolicies take account of environmental, economic and social effects as well as thereduction in casualties they may achieve. (see the <strong>Transport</strong> Safety Policy)Roads in new developments should be designed with appropriate infrastructure for pedestrians andcyclists, with a particular focus on the needs of children. (see the <strong>Transport</strong> Safety Policy)Work with partners to create a cycling network that is convenient, comfortable, safe and attractiveto use (for more information, see the Cycling Policy)Enforcement of speed limits will be undertaken by the West Mercia Safer Roads Partnership andWest Mercia Police, with deployment of Safety Cameras following the site selection criteriaestablished by the partnership.
