We connect to the communitythrough more corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes than anycomparable park in the world. Since 2006, for example, every Hong Kongresident has been welcomed to Ocean Park free of charge on their birthday. Allresidents over the age of 65 – that’s some 880,000 people – enjoy free entry toOcean Park. We also provide free entry to holders of the Registration Card forPeople with Disabilities, a group which numbers more than 40,000 people. When the HKSAR Chief Executive spokeat the third meeting of the Task Force on Economic Challenges in January,we voiced strong support for his call to create jobs. We underlined how thePark was creating 100 new jobs at Amazing Asian Animals, for example, andadding another 600 jobs with the construction of the Ocean Express funicularsystem – at a time when some other enterprises were reducing headcount.We also highlighted our “Big Five” annual events, which can require as many as1,000 extra seasonal staff, and pointed to other contracts that created furtheremployment in the fiscal year. We focused our energies on job training too.Our Theme Park F&B Training Programme, for example, launched in October2008, provided valuable opportunities for 25 young people to develop theirtalent in the hospitality field.
