Cunha -- <strong>Research</strong> on the mosquitoes of Angola X rivers Lombe, Cuanza and Cubango. 50 of the females were caught when biting man in the open, at dusk (from 6.00 to 7.00 p.m.). Another female was caught indoors, also landing on man, at 19.00. Finally, one unfed female was caught at rest, in the outside, at about 18.30. Thus, according to our experience, C. poicilipes must be regarded as an important man-biting mosquito in the Angolan savannas, which is in accordance with the findings of other Authors in other parts of Africa (35) (37). 7.5.21--Culex (Culex) pruina pruina Theobald, 1901 New record for Angola. MATERIAL EXAMINED. DALA TANDO, 3 9, 9 plus 2 larvae, 25-26.VIII. 1969. TAXOIOMIC NOTES. In the Angolan larvae of the nominal subspecies of C. pruina head seta d has 4 or 5 branches and, with the exception of the more distal pair, subventral tufts of siphon have 6-10 branches per tuft (mean about 8.5). The spiculation of the thorax and abdomen seems to be strongly variable. Head seta e is bifid, and not single as described by Hopkins (24), f has 3-6 branches and the lateral seta of saddle is 3- or 4-branched. Other larval characters, as described by Hopkins (op. cit.). The adults, including the male terminalia, agree quite well with known descriptions (74) (8). For further taxonomic analysis, see also under subspecies eschirasi. DISTRIBUTION. Map 17 shows the only Angolan locality known for C. p. pruina, within the West African zoogeographical Subregion. BIOEOOLOGICAL NOTES. Our adults of C. p. pruina were laboratory reared. 2 larval biotopes of pruina s.s. were recorded: a sunlit rock-pool with greenish water in the margins of the Capecha river, and a shaded bamboo stump in a bamboo gallery forest remnant.
