tools. It ranks 2nd in producing synthetic resins, plastics, and electric bulbs; 3rd in<br />

fabricating caustic soda, polyethylene, and helicopters; 4th in producing synthetic<br />

rubbers; 5th in building buses and trolleybuses.<br />

The Bashkortostan of today is the country's vibrantly developing agricultural<br />

area making a substantial contribution to the national wealth buildup. The Republic<br />

is one of Russia's largest suppliers of grain and animal breeding produce ranking<br />

second in terms of farm animal production output and seventh in terms of plant<br />

production.<br />

The Republic is an undisputed leader in horse population and cattle stock, as<br />

well as in the production of milk, koumiss, and honey. Bashkortostan ranks 2nd<br />

in growing potatoes, 3rd in supplying grass-flesh and poultry meat, 5th in sheep,<br />

goat and pig population, and 6th in egg production.<br />

In addition to preserving large-scale agricultural production facilities,<br />

Bashkortostan has been actively supporting peasants' farms and sole<br />

proprietors.<br />

The Republic of Bashkortostan is justly proud of its powerful and<br />

comprehensive construction business. New projects are commissioned in<br />

manufacturing, agribusiness, communications, merchandising, public catering,<br />

and transport.<br />

Bashkortostan builds new schools and pre-schools, hospitals and polyclinics,<br />

culture-related facilities, and sport and recreation centers. Works continue to bring<br />

natural gas to remote communities; road construction is underway, as well as<br />

building highways, bridges, water supply, sewerage and heat supply networks.<br />

The well-developed transport network comprising transit railways and<br />

motor-roads facilitate the efficient functioning of the Republic's economy.<br />

Main oil, product and gas pipelines traverse the Republic's territory. The<br />

water transport system operating a fleet of vessels for river-sea navigation<br />

provides access to Caspian, Baltic, Black and Azov Sea ports. Over 50 airlines<br />

performing scheduled and technical flights use the services of Ufa International<br />

Airport. The number of destinations in the Russian Federation, Europe, Asia, Far<br />

and Middle East that can be reached from the Republic is increasing.
