Ein wunderschönes
Wochenende in Berlin
Die deutsche Hauptstadt mit ihren vielen Kultureinrichtungen, Szenevierteln
und Restaurants ist ein guter Ort, um einige entspannte Tage zu verbringen.

Freitag. Ihre Reise ist recht früh am Morgen
losgegangen. Und so ist schon um 09:35
der Flug OS271 aus Wien am Berliner
Flughafen Tegel gelandet. Von hier sind Sie
schnell in der Stadt. Gerade mal 20 Minuten
dauert die Fahrt mit der Autobuslinie X9 zum
Bahnhof Zoo, und von dort sind es nur wenige
Meter zu Ihrem Hotel, dem 25hours. Mit diesem
Hotel haben Sie eine gute Wahl getroffen.
Denn die Zeiten, in denen die Gegend um den
Bahnhof Zoo einen zwielichtigen Ruf hatte,
sind längst vorbei. Heute ist hier einer der
Hotspots der Stadt.
Das 25hours Hotel ist Teil eines neuen
Komplexes, der sich Bikini Berlin nennt.
Direkt unterhalb des Hotels befindet sich eine
mehrstöckige Shoppingmall, in der so ziemlich
alles vertreten ist, was in Berlin gerade als
hip gilt: vom Designer Murkudis über das
Möbelhaus Artek bis zum Buchverlag Gestalten.
Auf der anderen Seite des Bahnhof Zoo sind es
zwei Kulturinstitutionen, die Sie nicht übersehen
sollten. Da ist erst einmal die Helmut Newton
Foundation in der Jebensstraße, in der
nicht nur Arbeiten des legendären Fotografen
gezeigt werden, sondern auch eine Nachbildung
seines monegassischen Büros und wechselnde
Sonderausstellungen. Von dort sind es nur
wenige Schritte zur Hardenbergstraße, wo
sich im Amerika Haus, das einst Kultur- und
Informationszentrum der Vereinigten Staaten
war, die hervorragende Fotogalerie c/o Berlin
niedergelassen hat, nachdem sie ihr ehemaliges
Zuhause im Ostteil der Stadt verlassen musste.
Aktuell wird eine Ausstellung mit Arbeiten des
niederländischen Fotografen Anton Corbijn
gezeigt, der mit Musiker-Porträts berühmt
wurde. Auch der nahe Kurfürstendamm, der
traditionelle Einkaufsboulevard der Stadt, hat
sich einem Wandel unterzogen. Er gibt sich
wieder elegant und frisch.

from Vienna is already touching down at
Berlin Tegel by 9.35 am. It’s a quick and easy
journey into the city from here: the airport
shuttle bus, the X9, takes just 20 minutes
to get you to Bahnhof Zoo, from where it’s
a few metres to your hotel, the 25hours.
The hotel was a good choice: the times
when the streets around Bahnhof Zoo had
a shady reputation are long gone. These
days it’s one of the city’s hotspots.
The 25hours Hotel is part of a new complex,
Bikini Berlin. Directly beneath the hotel,
there’s a multi-storey shopping mall with
outlets for pretty well all the names making
the city as cool as it undoubtedly is at the
moment, from designer Murkudis through
furniture store Artek to publishing house
Gestalten and many more.
On the other side of Bahnhof Zoo are two
cultural institutions you should be sure not
to miss. The first is the Helmut Newton
Foundation on Jebensstraße, where you
can not only catch works by the legendary
photographer, but also enjoy a reproduction
of his office in Monaco and temporary
exhibitions. The second, just down the road
on Hardenberg Straße, is where the excellent
photo gallery c/o Berlin has set up shop at
the Amerika Haus, once the cultural and
information centre of the United States,
since having to leave its former home in
the east of the city. An exhibition of works
by Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn, who
made his name with portraits of musicians,
is currently being shown there. The nearby
Kurfürstendamm, traditional centre of the
city’s shopping universe, has also undergone
a transformation in recent years, and now
> boasts a more elegant, fresher feel.
