The following are not contraindications to immunization:<br />

A reaction to a previous DPT of temperature < 105°F, redness, soreness,<br />

and swelling<br />

A mild, acute illness in an o<strong>the</strong>rwise well child<br />

A family history of seizures or sudden infant death syndrome<br />

MMR: Documented egg allergy is not a contraindication.<br />

Yellow fever vaccine: Egg allergy does contraindicate.<br />

Influenza vaccine: Egg allergy is no longer a contraindication. Patients ≥ 6<br />

months with a known egg allergy should receive trivalent inactivated influenza<br />

vaccine (TIV) followed by a 30-minute observation period in a facility<br />

prepared to recognize and treat anaphylaxis. Patients with a history of severe<br />

anaphylaxis to eggs should be referred to an allergy specialist to receive TIV.<br />

MMR does not cause autism or inflammatory bowel disease.<br />

Hepatitis B vaccine does not cause demyelinating neurologic disorders.<br />

Meningococcal vaccination is not related to development of Guillain-Barré.<br />
