Keep your eyes peeled for our line up of must-see films,
up-and-coming musicians and the next big thing...
Captain America: Civil War
Director: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
Stars: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson
Release Date: 5th Septmeber
The title of this latest Marvel Cinematic Studios release is a little
misleading. Although Cap is the headline character, in truth
this film focuses on the Avengers team, as divisions within their
ranks cause the star studded line up to turn against each other.
Captain America: Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony
Russo return, and their blend of shadowy intrigue and widescreen
action is a welcome contrast to the off the wall, blockbuster tone
of Joss Whedon’s Avengers flicks. Civil War may not be able to
boast a headline villain like Loki, but the chance to see Avengers
heavyweights like Iron Man and Black Widow going up against each
other more than makes up for it. And if that isn’t enough, Tom
Holland’s Spider-Man makes his show stopping MCU debut.
American Pastoral
Directors: Ewan McGregor
Stars: Jennifer Connelly, Dakota Fanning, Uzo Aduba
Release Date: November 2016
In a somewhat brave choice for his directorial debut, Ewan
McGregor tackles an adaptation of Philip Roth’s seminal 1997
novel. McGregor also stars as Swede Levov, a man tormented
by his daughter’s (Dakota Fanning) increasingly radical political
leanings. The novel is a vast deconstruction of the American Dream,
and McGregor’s adaptation will have to work hard to live up to its
decades-spanning plot.
Bastille:
Wild World
Bastille will release their
second LP, Wild World,
a 14 track album that
follows their multiplatinum
2013 debut,
Bad Blood. Lead single
Good Grief is soulful and
anthemic, but lacks a
little depth and the lyrics
never progress beyond
insipid. Frontman Dan
Smith has promised more
guitars on their second
release, but they are still
somewhat pushed to
the background, such
as on the synth-driven
The Currents. Bastille
remain a little middle of
the road, but they will
not be disappointed by
the inevitable Coldplay
comparisons, and fans
are likely to be similarly
pleased by an album full of
catchy anthems.
