The V Virgins
Gemma braves camping at V Festival with Unbeatable Hire
When my sister called and asked if I wanted to go to V Festival
this year, I jumped at the chance, as I have never been to a festival
where you camp before. Its one of those bucket list things that
needs to be ticked off! I love the outdoors but I’m not a camper
(as in tent) I like my home comforts and feel that a bed and a
toilet is not too much to ask. We looked at the V Festival glamping
options and the choice was very impressive, everything from quirky
brightly-coloured pods to gypsy caravans. The price however,
slightly less impressive. The cheapest glamping option was £1290
rising to a cool £8000 for the three days!
We didn’t really want to pay those prices on top of our ticket so
decided to buy a camping pitch for £100 and rent a motorhome
for £875. The motorhome we selected sleeps 6 and was rented
from a local company Unbeatable Hire who are based in Bourne.
We arrived at the Unbeatable Hire depo and before setting off to
Chelmsford were given a tour of our motorhome and advised on
how everything works. I quickly baggsied the double bed and my
sister and friend Martine got cozy in the bunks.
Unfortunately the weather really was not on our side, we arrived
to rain and left to rain. There were many times I looked smugly
out of our motorhome window at the people who had chosen to
pitch a tent! The convenience didn’t end there; we were protected
from the porta loos, communal showers and only ever a few feet
away from a cold drink or hot cup of tea. Oh and I can’t forget to
mention the constant power supply for our phones. Very important
considering the amount of selfies and drunken videos taken over
the course of the three days.
V Festival, we came, we saw and we conquered! Now time for
the detox.
