I promise not to beat around the bush... The fashion world’s
hippest and boldest fashion brands are shaking up the slick
fashion elite and recreating the style rules. We are all holding
our breath and spying with our fashion apps and girly chats to
unveil what will be landing on the shop floors - thus urging our
pre-fall shopping spree. Will we abdicate last winter’s luxurious
sportswear and our most coveted quilted jackets, in favour of
new textures, styles and colour waves? Or will the fashion police
grant us yet another year’s wear? Mercy please, the suspense is
dire… So let me reveal all.
Essentially, velvet will be hijacking texture, ranging from Isabel
Marant’s skirts to Céline trousers, playsuits as seen in Zara, and
more. Now try and picture this fabric opulence in the deepest
mustard tones and even deeper oxblood shades… Heaven so far,
hey? Well, this may just set the tone to then boastfully introduce
a powerful 80s revival, dripping in sleek vinyl, troublemaker
vibes and a ‘tongue in cheek’ punk revival. March straight to
your closets and dig out all the 80s one-sleeved disco wonder
dresses, any touch of glossy vinyl and any remotely delinquent
attire, and throw them straight into this mix. Part punk will be
your new jumping board this fall, diving you straight into Bowie
wide psychedelic heeled boots such as Saint Laurent’s, and
full leather, ripped tights as seen at Prada. Plus, various chains
and the oh so coveted studs, which clearly, we still haven’t had
enough of. Luxury comfort will by all means still be key to the
winter season... hurray, hurray, hurray! Please make sure your
sleeves stay extra long and for an extra fashion flair stick to ‘bell
sleeves’ all the way.
My tip of the month? Get rid of all your evening coats and stroke
your quilted jackets - especially your boyfriend’s super-sized
puffas that can take you from office to disco in just a bounce!
The military trend will be abounding in the jacket department,
where reefers are ever so popular, backed mostly by a navalinspired
theme. A few final ingredients to top next A/W’s
deliciously stylish collections will include a huge dose of colourful
leopard prints. Bring on the brocades, keep the ruffles and look
after your metallics until next spring.
My favourite fashion accessory so far? The genius extra wide
embellished guitar straps that bring the true rockstar out of all of
us fashion rebels. Thank you, Fendi, for the mind-blowing idea,
whilst I bow to all the other amazing fashion houses that have
followed suit... Louis Vuitton, in particular, with the neon colours
throughout their A/W bag collection.
