Roar with Laughter
84 Charing Cross Road
84 Charing Cross Road tells the true, bittersweet
but heart-warming story of a Transatlantic friendship
which develops between outspoken New York writer
Helene Hanff, (played by Hollywood and Broadway
legend, Stefanie Powers), and more restrained English
bookseller Frank Doel (played by celebrated British
TV and film actor Clive Francis), after Hanff places an
order by mail.
From 1949 until Doel’s death in 1969, Hanff and Doel
continue to correspond, humorously revealing the
contrast between life in post-war Britain, still affected by
rationing, and more affluent New York.
Enjoy a spectacular evening of comedy with three great exponents of stand
up, Mike Wilmot, Rob Beckett and Rich Wilson. Beckett, ‘Mouth of the
South’, now well-established, is also a familiar TV figure, who has appeared on
‘Live at the Apollo’, ‘Mock the Week’ and ‘8 out of 10 Cats’. Inspired by the
comedians he saw while working as a barman at a club in Greenwich, Wilson
gave comedy a go himself. He has since become a circuit regular, especially as
a compere, while Mike Wilmot has appeared at venues all around the world.
International guitar night with the Lulo
Reinhardt and Andre Krengel Quartet
Stunning guitarist Lulo is the great-nephew of the world famous
gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, who helped to create an entirely
new way of playing jazz in the 1930s and 1940s. Lulo, who began
playing guitar at the tender age of 5, has incorporated Latin
swing and flamenco into the jazz rhythms of his family’s musical
heritage, creating a unique mix of styles. One of Germany’s
leading guitarists, Andre Krengel is truly multi-cultural, combining
American rock styles with Spanish, Portuguese, Cuban and world
music. In 2005, he co-founded prize-winning band Sina Nossa
(“Our Destiny”), a Portuguese fado and world music fusion band.
