they can take up something called upayoga,<br />
which gives you physical and<br />
psychological benefits but doesn’t touch<br />
the spiritual dimension. It can be learnt in<br />
five minutes and can be practiced<br />
anywhere. Once people experience the<br />
benefits, they will naturally seek yoga in<br />

If you’re a beginner, what is the best<br />
practice to follow the path of yoga in its<br />
true form?<br />
Sadhguru: Yoga is not just about morningevening<br />
practice. Every aspect of your life<br />
– the very way you walk, breathe, interact<br />
– should become a process of yoga.<br />
Yoga is not something that you do. Yoga is<br />
something that you become. If you<br />
cultivate your body, mind, emotions and<br />
energies to a certain level of maturity, a<br />
quality arises within you where being<br />
peaceful and joyful is not determined by<br />
anything outside of you, it is determined<br />
by you. Yogic practices definitely help<br />

upa-yoga is.<br />
Sadhguru: In vernacular languages,<br />
“upayoga” refers to something useful,<br />
but actually it means sub or pre-yoga.<br />
Yoga itself is not an exercise. It is a<br />
technology through which a dimension<br />
beyond the physical becomes a living<br />
reality within you. So, it needs to be<br />
handled in a committed atmosphere.<br />
But upa-yoga does not demand that nor<br />
does it cause problems if done<br />
improperly because you can’t do it<br />
improperly – it’s very simple.<br />
Upa-yoga exercises muscles and<br />
lubricates joints, improves neuronal<br />
regeneration and memory, reduces sleep,<br />
activates the spine and brings a deep sense<br />
of peacefulness. The practices are available<br />
