Brian Somerville sculpts beasts that tell
stories. If only given moments, his animals
are entertaining and humorous.
Lurking under this first impression are
larger conceptual epics with extensive
social, political and personal themes.
Brian’s work is primarily sculpted in clay
on crude armatures, compromising correct
anatomy for
dynamic expression.
Once sculpted,
each piece is
cut up, hollowed,
reassembled and
obsessively covered
with hand
carved images. Brian
received a BFA from the University of
Evansville in Indiana, USA and an MFA
from Florida Atlantic University in Boca
Raton, Florida, USA. Brian creates new
work in Nashville, TN and continues to
share his knowledge through workshops
and lectures.
