Carolyn Schlam is an award winning
painter who was featured as a finalist
in the 2013 Smithsonian Museum Portrait
Competition. Her current work is
focused on the figurative and is infused
with emotional content, expressing the
vulnerability and longing of her mostly
female subjects. Carolyn explores portraiture
in its many aspects – Traditional,
in which appearance and character is
foremost; Expressionistic, in which the
inner life is heightened, and Stylized, in
which the image becomes iconic. She
is known for her use of exuberant color,
elegant drawing and modern design.
She is the author of two art books and
illustrator of several children’s books.
