Thanks to its durability and resistance to moisture,
a Forster steel kitchen is the ideal solution for extreme
conditions – as are to be found in an SAC hut on Oberaarjoch
at 3,258 m. «A Forster kitchen is just the job for
SAC huts», says hut supervisor Kurt Baumgartner.
Chief fitter Peter Blust loaded the Forster kitchen into the
delivery van at half-past six in the morning. After driving over
the Grimselpass, he continued along the scenic route to
Oberaarstausee. The well-packed kitchen units and other
building materials were flown past the steep rock faces over
the glacier to Oberaarjoch by helicopter. The first attempt
at landing failed due to strong winds. Landing was then
successful an hour later.
Already in use in the evening
The assembly of the attractive Forster kitchen in discrete pearl
white was a routine job for the experienced fitters. It was
possible to use the kitchen the same evening. Snow and hail

showers prevented the helicopter from landing again, so the
team of fitters had to make the three-hour descent down
into the valley on foot the following morning. Even though
Peter Blust does not fit kitchens under such extreme conditions
every day, for him every kitchen is an experience. Handing over
a finished Forster kitchen to a satisfied customer is always an
unforgettable moment for him – even below 3,258 m! «
