Oxygen influxes often behave erratically <strong>and</strong> are only partially<br />

understood. Coitparison of the behaviour of D2 <strong>and</strong> He-discharges<br />

indicates that chemical processes involving oxygen are important<br />

[8].<br />

Metal impurities, such as nickel, originating from the inconel<br />

wall or from the nickel Faraday screen of the RF antennas during<br />

the application of RF povrer are due to localised effects <strong>and</strong> are<br />

not easily explained by the overall SOL parameters. However the
