Black Sea And Mediterranean
Sea Reach Each Other
Along with 18 transport projects, north and south sides of Turkey will be
connected to each other, Ahmet Arslan, Turkish Minister of Transport,
Maritime and Communication
The north and south sides of
Turkey will be connected to
each other through the number of
18 transport corridors, according
to the announcement of Ahmet
Arslan, Turkish Minister of Transport,
Maritime and Communication.
The Minister Arslan reminded they
had crucial works in recent years.
Stating the north and south parts of
the country would be connected via
18 transport corridor to each other,
Arslan continued; “The number of
18 corridors has been set in order
to connect Turkey’s north to south,
via the Black Sea region to the
Mediterranean Sea region and via
Eastern Anatolia to Southeastern
Anatolia. 3 of these 18 corridors
are being built to connect the Black
Sea region via eastern Anatolia to
the Mediterranean and southern
region. One of them is Ovit Tunnel
features a very important tunnel.
With its continuity the tunnel
which has spanning in the length
of 14,2 kilometers will connect to
the provinces of Erzincan, Erzurum
via Kop Tunnel, via Gumushane to
Trabzon.”
Ovit Tunnel will be in the force
in 2018
The Minister Arslan informed about
the works of Ovit Tunnel of which
construction is continuing in full
swing into the Ovit Mountain in
2,640 meters altitude in the district
of Ikizdere, Rize province.
Taking place among the longest
tunnels of the world and heralding
it would enter into force in 2018,
Arslan said, “Ovit tunnel will be in
service in 2018. So, we will have
built a remarkable corridor which
will connect the province of Rize to
Erzurum via Ispir, from there to the
south of our country. The Zigana
Tunnel will connect Trabzon via
Gumushane to Erzincan and
Bayburt from there to Erzurum.
In the continuity of the route, the
Kop tunnel is a very crucial tunnel,
so we will be completing a second
tunnel, second route. I hope we
will not suffice with these, we will
also build lots of tunnel in other
regions of our country in order to
complete above mentioned road
project.”
Transport between the Black
sea and Mediterranean will be
seamless
Arslan also reminded Tendurek
passage between the cities of
Dogubayazit and Van on the
Tendurek Mountains was not
proper for transition in winter
months, he concluded, “We have
planned a tunnel for the Tendurek
mountains in order to exceed the
Tendurek Mountains easily. I hope
we will have connected the Black
Sea to the Mediterranean Sea
through the most eastern side
of our country via constructing
tunnel, viaduct and bridge.”
