Summary:
For this semester’s design studio, we’ve been working on a master plan to improve the situation by the
Bahnhofquai and integrate a new building, which shall replace the Globus Provisorium.
The area around the Hauptbahnhof has a few connected pedestrian areas. The idea of the design is to
create more pedestrian friendly areas in front of the Hauptbahnhof and by the Globus Provisorium and
to connect these to the pedestrian network. This is achieved by restricting car traffic over ground, only
allowing it to pass between Hauptbahnhof and Central and leading all other traffic through the existing
underpass, which is extended all the way to the police department. Furthermore the newly created
spaces and the pedestrian network should be connected to the Limmat, which is a great quality of the
