LEADER AWARD (YELA)<br />

BRONZE AGES 13-25<br />

The Young Equestrian Leaders Award<br />

(YELA) is an award scheme designed<br />

to recognise the time and effort young<br />

volunteers give to equestrianism and<br />

shape their experience, so they become<br />

equestrian leaders of the future.<br />

YELA demonstrates<br />

commitment,<br />

leadership and<br />

responsibility<br />

and provides a<br />

great springboard<br />

to a whole host<br />

of fantastic<br />

experiences in<br />

equestrianism.<br />

YELA may lead<br />

candidates down<br />

many different paths: coaching, horse<br />

care, fundraising, training and mentoring<br />

volunteers and much more besides.<br />

• 20 hours of volunteering.<br />

• Over a minimum of 8 weeks.<br />

• Introduces equestrian skills, leadership<br />

and responsibility.<br />

- Appropriate supervision for the<br />

volunteering tasks they are undertaking.<br />

COSTING<br />

£14 to register for the Bronze Award.<br />

SILVER<br />

Pre-requisite: to have completed the<br />

YELA Bronze Award.<br />

• 40 hours of volunteering.<br />

• Over a minimum of 16 weeks.<br />

• Encourages the pursuit of new skills<br />

and experiences.<br />

- Appropriate supervision for the<br />

volunteering tasks they are undertaking.<br />

COSTING<br />

£16 to register for the Silver Award.<br />

Volunteering may take place with one<br />

or two different BEF Member Bodies.<br />

AGES 13-25<br />

YOUNG EQUESTRIAN<br />

LEADER AWARD (YELA)<br />

GOLD<br />

Pre-requisite: to have completed the<br />

YELA Silver Award.<br />

• 60 hours of volunteering.<br />

• Over a minimum of 32 weeks.<br />

• Experiencing a wide range of skills,<br />

taking the lead on the planning<br />

delivery of a volunteering project.<br />

- Appropriate supervision for the<br />

volunteering tasks they are undertaking.<br />

COSTING<br />

£22 to register for the Gold Award.<br />

Volunteering hours should take<br />

place with three BEF Member Bodies<br />

and gold candidates will be asked<br />

to complete a delivery plan for a<br />

volunteering project.<br />

Volunteering may take place at an event or venue within the<br />

British Equestrian Federation, for example: Pony Club Branch<br />

or Centre, Riding for the Disabled Group, British Eventing, BHS<br />

Approved Riding Centre, British Dressage, British Showjumping.<br />
