AGES 13-19<br />

YOUNG AQUATIC LEADER<br />

CERTIFICATE (YALC)<br />

The YALC is a sport-specific leadership workshop<br />

which aims to develop young aquatic leaders and<br />

provide them with the knowledge to actively volunteer<br />

in an aquatic environment.<br />

The YALC is suitable for those with no prior knowledge<br />

of aquatics. The workshop consists of:<br />

• an introduction to timekeeping in swimming,<br />

• an introduction to running an aquatic youth club,<br />

• an introduction to running an aquatic competition.<br />

5½ HOURS OF THEORY (CAN BE DELIVERED OVER<br />

MULTIPLE SESSIONS) AND 2 HOURS OF PRACTICAL<br />

Can be delivered by those with experience of<br />

delivering to young people.<br />

AGES 13-16<br />

AQUATIC HELPER<br />

The Aquatic Helper workshop is designed for young<br />

people aged 13–16 who wish to actively assist on<br />

poolside in an aquatic environment, e.g. a club or<br />

swim school.<br />

The workshop covers pool safety, identifying risks,<br />

effective communication, good practice and the<br />

benefits of the Athlete Development Support Pathway<br />

(ADSP).<br />

3 HOURS OF THEORY AND 3 HOURS OF PRACTICAL<br />

Can be delivered by an individual with a Swim England<br />

Coach Certificate (previously known as the UKCC<br />

Level 2 Coaching) or Level 2 Swimming Teacher<br />

Qualification.<br />
